Solvent effects on reaction rates
نویسنده
چکیده
Solvent effects on the rates of some well-known nuclophilic substitution reactions have been analysed in terms of initial—state and transition-state contributions. Where possible, the latter have been further analysed by the method of model solutes, on which solvent effects on a transition state are compared to solvent effects on a solute that might be a suitable model for the transition state. Solvent effects on reaction rates have also been analysed using the multiple linear regression procedure of Kamlet and Taft. It is shown that results from the two quite—different approaches are in good agreement with each other.

Investigation of solvent effect on the active site energy of Carbonic Anhydrase and Ribonucleotide Reductase
Enzymes catalyze many biological reactions. The rates of chemical reaction in the presence ofenzymes are, in some cases, accelerated more than 10 orders of magnitude relative to thecorresponding rates in solution. In this paper a comparison between optimized structures of two enzyme molecules in aspect ofenergy and dipole moment in different conditions including presence of metallic ion, without...
متن کاملSolvent-Induced Reversal of Activities between Two Closely Related Heterogeneous Catalysts in the Aldol Reaction
The relative rates of the aldol reaction catalyzed by supported primary and secondary amines can be inverted by 2 orders of magnitude, depending on the use of hexane or water as a solvent. Our analyses suggest that this dramatic shift in the catalytic behavior of the supported amines does not involve differences in reaction mechanism, but is caused by activation of imine to enamine equilibria a...

The transition state for subtilisin-catalyzed transesterification was probed by high-pressure kinetic studies in solvents spanning a wide range of dielectric constants. The electrostatic model of Kirkwood described the solvent effects and gave a lower limit of 31 ( 1.5 Debye for the dipole moment of the transition state. This value remained constant in a wide range of polar and apolar solvents,...
